How to edit a Glance chat video in CapCut

Use Glance Studio to animate the conversation and CapCut to assemble the exported clip with other footage. The handoff is a video file: CapCut receives the rendered MP4, not Glance’s editable message bubbles or project settings.

Finish the conversation before the handoff

Check the script, character names and timing in Glance. If a message is misspelled, correct it in the project and export again. Trying to hide the mistake with another text layer in a video editor creates unnecessary work.

Choose the background and phone composition you want to preserve. A normal MP4 is a flattened image sequence; it does not provide a transparent chat layer. Do not plan an edit around removing the background unless you have independently tested a suitable workflow.

Import the MP4 into your editing project

Save the Glance export, open a CapCut project and import the file as media. Put it where the conversation belongs in the larger story. Keep the project vertical if the finished video is intended for a vertical social feed.

A useful sequence is a short establishing shot, the chat exchange and a final result. Trim empty time around the exchange, but avoid cutting away while a new bubble is still being read. CapCut documents using a separate texting-video maker followed by its editor for finishing.

Add sound and supporting footage deliberately

Listen to the imported clip before adding a soundtrack. If it already contains narration or music, another full-volume track can make the result muddy. Adjust the mix and watch a silent pass to confirm the story does not depend entirely on audio.

Use your own gameplay or licensed background footage when it is needed. A finished Glance scene may work best as a full-frame clip rather than a small rectangle layered over a busy second video. Compare both compositions at phone size.

Export once the assembled edit is ready

Inspect the full timeline, then export the finished edit and replay that file. Check the transitions into and out of the chat, the last line, the crop and the audio balance. Retain the original Glance export alongside the final edit.

If the dialogue changes later, update it in Glance and replace that source clip in the editing project. Glance does not export a native CapCut project, and importing the MP4 does not make its individual chat elements editable.
